If you're a keen mountain biker then the Lake District is the perfect place to visit. Just a short nine mile drive from Sunderland will lead you to the Whinlatter Forest Park. The park has the longest mountain bike trail in the Lake District called the Altura Trail.
The trail is 12 miles long and offers stunning views of Derwent Lake as it climbs to an altitude of 500m. Don't worry if you haven't brought your own bike as the visitor centre at the start of trail offers bike hire and runs courses to teach beginners.
