Attractions
Of course, the main attraction is the ample skiing available in and around the village; however, there are plenty more activities that this beautiful village offers, both in winter and summer.
In the summer you can enjoy hiking through over 200 miles of hiking paths, and 90 miles of mountain biking trails, beginner and expert. Guides are available from tourist offices and you can also rent a bike.
You can take a full day excursion on the scenic Golden Pass train taking in the glorious Alpine scenery in its panoramic coaches, or go on a husky tour around the beautiful Lake Lauenen.
If you have a head for heights then a ride in a hot-air balloon with breathtaking views might be for you. Rides are available from Chateaux-d'Oex, which is a 20-minute journey from Gstaad.
For those of you that enjoy shopping, you will not be disappointed. Gstaad hosts a large selection of designer labels including Louis Vuitton, Dolce and Gabbana, Burberry, Dior and Ralph Lauren, as well as independent shops selling excellent quality local produce. All of which can be browsed in the traffic-free village centre.
After a long day, your muscles can be relaxed at the Gstaad Sports Centre, or you might want to indulge in a spa at the Hotel Ermitage.
Furthermore, throughout the year there is a range of events in and around Gstaad, including the Swiss Open in July and a host of classical music festivals.
Food and drink
With over 100 restaurants, Gstaad has cuisine for all requirements. The Restaurant Hotel Baren serves Swiss cuisine such as fondues and traditionally cooked raclette, in a homely atmosphere. If you like gourmet cuisine then head to Restaurant Chesery where you can enjoy fine dining and a seasonal menu in an authentic Swiss chalet.
There is après ski a' plenty. Gstaad's traditional streets are home to more than 30 bars and late-night venues offering excellent choice for an evening out. Bars sell cocktails, local beers and excellent quality wines. There is even a traditional pub called Jam Pub, which hosts live music.
There is also a range of Gstaad hotels to suit different budgets. These range from 3-star to your luxury 4- and 5-star hotels.
