Holidays to Faro
Enjoy Faro with a beautiful marina, and peaceful parks and plazas hidden around each corner. Faro also has an impressive array of nightlife, including clubs, bars and a vibrant theatre scene.
The capital of the Algarve, this beautiful city has something for everyone to enjoy. Relax on white beaches, have fun windsurfing, explore the historic old town, and much more with a cheap holiday in Faro.
On Sunny Beaches
Close to the airport is the popular Praia de Faro (Faro Beach), a long stretch of sandy beach, perfect for sunbathing or a gentle stroll.
There are plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants to explore along the promenade and you can try your hand at water sports such as jet skiing, windsurfing, and sailing. For something a bit more relaxed, take a swim in the lagoon, with its gentle waves and mild temperature.
Avenues and Alleyways
Travel back in time with a stroll through the winding streets of Cidade Velha, the oldest district of Faro. The town is defined by two distinct areas, Vila-Adentro being the oldest part and Mouraria, where the Moors settled during the 1200s.
Within Vila-Adentro, you can see three medieval gateway arches that form entrances into the town and fantastic examples of gothic architecture, such as the Cathedral of Faro, with its distinctive chapels and gorgeous interior containing ceramic tiles, gilded woodwork, marble, and intricate paintings and sculptures.
A fantastic way to see the sights during your holiday in Faro is to take a bike tour. Bicycles and audio guides can be hired at the Marina, so that you can learn more about the old town and its historic architecture as you pass through.
Take a break at the Museum of Faro, a former monastery with many interesting artifacts, and then cycle on to the new town, where you can enjoy stunning views over the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
The World Is Your Oyster
If you’re planning your discount Faro holiday in late July or early August, you’ll be able to treat your tastebuds at the annual Faro Seafood Festival, where you can sample the best local dishes and specialties from the Ria Formosa lagoon. Tuck into delicious oysters, shrimp, and cockles, washed down with local beer, and enjoy entertainment from local folk musicians and the street theatre.
Later on in August, there’s the chance to see the FOLKFARO festival, promoting the culture and traditions of seven countries over nine days. There are many activities to enjoy during the festival, including parades, dance workshops, theatre shows, and other outdoor performances. Be prepared to sing, dance, and have lots of fun.
