How to reach Las Palmas

• Flight time: There are no flights to Las Palmas. Direct flights to Gran Canaria Airport, 19km south of Las Palmas, take around 4 hours 30 minutes from London and other UK airports.

• Transfer time: From Gran Canaria Airport, it takes roughly 30 minutes to drive to the centre of Las Palmas. The Global Bus leaves frequently from outside the terminal and takes around 35 minutes to reach the city.

• Price: A taxi from Gran Canaria Airport to the city centre will cost around €40. The Global Bus is much cheaper, with tickets priced at around €3 per person. Car hire is also available from the airport, with prices starting from about €20 per day.

Weather and best time to visit Las Palmas

Las Palmas is mild year-round but can be extremely hot in summer. The time you plan to visit will be largely influenced by what you want to do there and your tolerance of the heat.

• April to June: Las Palmas is warm and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 19°C to 25°C. There is very little rain and 8 to 9 hours of sunshine daily. If you want to see the city without fighting through summertime crowds, this is the best time to do it.

• September to November: This is a great time for a more relaxed experience with pleasant weather for sightseeing. Temperatures of 22°C to 27°C are typical, rainfall increases a little but there are still lots of sunny days.

• December to March: Temperatures are still very mild, ranging from 18°C to 23°C, and you can enjoy the city without having to fight your way through the crowds. Sunshine hours average 6 to 7 hours a day but rainfall is higher (40 to 60mm per month).

• Spoken languages: Spanish is the official language. English is widely spoken but learning a few basic Spanish phrases can be helpful if you venture off the beaten track.
