Hidden bays with crystal clear, turquoise waters, long sandy beaches and a varied coastline - this is the Greek island of Corfu in the Mediterranean Sea. On the 217km long coastline, you will find the most beautiful beaches in Greece, which are suitable for sunbathers as well as for water sports enthusiasts. On Corfu you can look forward to a relaxing beach holiday with the guarantee of sun.
The horseshoe-shaped bay of Agios Georgios Pagi on the north-west coast of Corfu is located only about 30km from the island's capital and is framed by two mountain ranges. The 3km long bay is one of the best beaches for families in Corfu, because the water drops very gently into the sea and children can splash about safely. The cosy taverns invite you to linger. Our tip: On the beach of Agios Georgios Pagi, you can try a new water sport, from waterskiing and sailing to scuba diving.
The so-called Butterfly Bay of Afionas Beach is located on the west coast of Corfu, near to the coastal village of the same name, which can be reached via winding roads. A footpath leads down to the beach, which has access to the sea on both sides of the headland and therefore resembles a butterfly. Optionally, you can also drive here with a boat taxi. So far, the bay is still a kind of insider tip and therefore not too busy. Our tip: Bring your snorkel and explore the crystal-clear underwater world of Corfu with its numerous fishes.
In the idyllic mountain village of Liapades there is a small pebble beach, or below the town centre and is lined with some cosy cafés and taverns. Local organisers rent out kayaks and pedal boats, and there is also a diving club. Our tip: Rent a boat and drive out to the nearby picturesque bay of Paleokastritsa or visit the caves along the coast.
The Peroulades Logas Beach is located in the north-west of the popular Greek holiday island and consists of a narrow strip of sand that runs at the foot of a steep cliff. You reach the beach via a staircase that leads down to the soft sand. While it is usually relatively shady here in the morning due to the cliffs, the so-called Sunset Beach presents itself in the evening in the most beautiful colours. Our tip: After sunbathing, stroll through the picturesque village of Peroulades, with its traditional Venetian houses and archways.
The fishing village of Agios Stefanos, about 35km from Corfu Town, has one of the top beaches for families. It is several hundred metres long, very wide and sandy, which is rather rare on the north-west coast. The sand very gently drops off into the sea, so you can easily go up to 100m out into the water. Currents are also a rarity here, which makes the beach very safe for children. Our tip: At the right end of the bay there is a jetty from which you can book a paragliding trip. You can enjoy fantastic views of the coast - an unforgettable experience.
At the Cape Kavo Kefali, in the north-west of the island, lies the gently sloping and sandy beach of Arillas. Here you will find the perfect conditions for a relaxing beach day: you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, have coffee in the cafés or rent a board at the surf station. On the small village street, there are also some shops selling souvenirs. Our tip: Take a boat to the nearby rock island Kravia and snorkel in the colourful underwater world of Corfu.
The beach of Dassia on the east coast is made of pebbles and is about 1km long and relatively narrow. It is framed to the north by the green Dafnila peninsula and to the south by a dense natural forest. In the middle of the bay there is a concrete platform that was built out into the sea. The leafy promenade with its taverns and restaurants invites you to take a stroll. On the beach there are showers, toilets and sun loungers. Our tip: Stay at Dassia Beach until after sunset and turn night into day at the Beach Club.
One of the longest and best beaches of Corfu is that of Roda on the north coast. It is 8km long and reaches Acharavi. The bay is sandy and pebbled, and is one of the most popular on the island as it has a good infrastructure. Here, locals offer various water sports and there are parking and sanitary facilities. The centre of Roda is within walking distance and offers numerous shopping, cafés and restaurants. Our tip: On the beach of Roda play a round of beach volleyball with the locals or other tourists.
Among the sandy beaches of the island is the kilometre-long beach of Acharavi on the north coast. It is rare to find pebbles here. Located directly on the coastal road, you can reach the bay very easily by car. Versatile water sports, various restaurants and the nearby Aquapark provide recreation and fun for both young and old. Our tip: Take a long walk through the seemingly limitless dune landscapes and the green hinterland.
Between the villages of Acharavi and Kassiopi in the north of Corfu lies another picturesque beach: the bay of Agios Spyridon. Not far from the water stands the small chapel of the same name, which is well worth visiting. The beach is about 300m long and very accessible. A restaurant with an attached music bar provides for atmospheric evenings. Our tip: Take a detour to the mouth of the Antinioti Lagoon. In this wetland biotope, which is under protection, you can observe rare reptiles and bird species with a little luck.
