Northern Lights in Sweden

Abisko, in particular, is home to the Aurora Sky Station, a prime viewing spot set in a unique microclimate ideal for northern lights sightings. Pair this adventure with a city break in Stockholm or Luleå to experience Sweden's vibrant culture alongside its natural wonders.

Stockholm

It doesn't take long to fall in love with Sweden's capital city if you're a fan of stunning scenery, great shopping, beautifully preserved architecture and excellent food and drink. A short break in Sweden offers the perfect chance to wander along the cobbled streets of the city's Old Town, finding time to stop and browse in the area's numerous independent shops and cafés.

Head over to the island of Södermalm to visit some of the locations named in Stieg Larsson's phenomenally successful Millennium crime trilogy, before returning to the city centre to learn all about the area's cultural heritage at the Stockholm City Museum. You might then choose to relax at the incredibly popular Mellqvist Kaffebar just a few minutes' walk away, said to serve some of the best coffee in Stockholm.

Gothenburg

Over on the country's west coast lies the city of Gothenburg, a foodie's paradise known in particular for its incredible seafood restaurants. A city break here wouldn’t be complete without trying shrimp from Smögen and oysters from Grebbestad during your stay and you'll not be disappointed. The city is known for its relaxed café vibe so be sure to follow the locals and spend some time in top haunts such as Rosenkaféet, Café Husaren and Ahlströms Konditori.

Time your visit to coincide with the annual Gothenburg Culture Festival in August if you want to enjoy live music, dancing, street art, poetry and theatre. Stop by the Museum of World Culture, catch a performance at the Gothenburg Opera House and spend a few minutes admiring the architecture on display at Gothenburg Cathedral on Kyrkogatan.

Malmö

Now famous across the world after having been the setting for hit Scandi-drama The Bridge, the coastal city of Malmö is a great place to spend a few days on a city break to Sweden. This small and friendly destination has plenty to offer visitors.

Head to the Malmöhus Castle building to find an excellent collection of museums, including the Malmö Art Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Spend an evening at the Malmö Opera or visit in August when the city hosts Malmöfestivalen, billed as Scandinavia's largest festival.

Relax by spending time chilling out in the numerous bars and restaurants that are dotted throughout the city centre. You might even want to pay a visit to the Øresund Bridge, which connects Sweden with Denmark.
