6. Grosse Freiheit 36 & Kaiserkeller

A tourist attraction in itself, Grosse Freiheit 36 books major acts most weekends, with an emphasis on goth and rock. The massive Kaiserkeller below plays mostly alternative music, and is famous for hosting The Beatles in the early 1960s. Hamburg bars don’t get much better than this!

7. Haus 73

Something is always on in this ramshackle building, somewhere between a community centre and a club, from dance classes to film and reggae club nights. Haus is always a great night out. There is a great selection of beers to choose from here, too.

10. Clockers

The outside might not look much, but head inside to the Clockers basement bar and you’ll find something that looks like it’s come straight from Narnia. Filled with artificial grass and a tree branching, the bar is incredibly atmospheric. Try their gin, here they offer gin tastings, too. You can also have a look at their bookshelf if you want to have a read with your drink.
