Albufeira has long been one of the Algarve’s most popular resorts - and it’s easy to see why. The old centre is a highly picturesque medley of whitewashed houses atop low sandstone cliffs, facing a fantastic town beach. Home to delicious food, from grilled chicken to tempting fish mains, you’ll never go hungry in Albufeira. What’s more, the resort is a sure hit for diners who are travelling with kids!
There is a fantastic selection of Albufeira restaurants which will tickle your fancy. Find everything you could ever want to eat here. You will be able to dine on incredible fresh fish, spicy chicken and tasty meat. If you have kids who are fussy eaters, they will enjoy the range of food choices on offer here. There are plenty of beautiful views in Portugal while you enjoy your meal too - imagine fine soft sands and crystal clear waters.
1. A Ruina
The A Ruina restaurant is partly built into the old town walls. The restaurant overlooks the beach, with rooms and terraces at various levels. The lower, beachside area is the best place for those who are travelling with kids, as they can play in the sand while you eat. They won’t be complaining about that! Fresh fish is the thing to go for on the menu, but check the price carefully when you order and expect to pay over €25 a head. 2. Casa da Fonte
Casa da Fonte is a popular spot. It’s set around a beautiful Moorish-style courtyard complete with azulejos and lemon trees - the setting is simply superb! Do get to Casa da Fonte early if you want a courtyard table, as they can be the first to go. There’s a long menu, with mains from roughly €12.
3. Casa del Mar
Casa del Mar is a spacious, modern seafood restaurant. It’s home to a lovely terrace overlooking the sparkling beach. Mains can start at around €15 - but the staff are knowledgeable and will guide you through the menu. A good choice is the tasty fish kebabs.
4. O Penedo
O Penedo is one of the top restaurants in Albufeira. And it’s not hard to see why. With tasteful contemporary decor and a terrific terrace overlooking the beach, this small, arty place serves a varied menu including chicken piri-piri and pasta dishes at around €9-15. Note that the restaurant is closed in January.
5. O Zuca
Despite its proximity to the main square, O Zuca is the locals’ choice - a simple, family-run restaurant which serves good-value, tasty meat and fish from around €8. The pork with clams is a top choice to try.
6. Teodósio
A short drive from Albufeira sits Guia, a lovely spot in Portugal. You’ll need a car to reach this giant restaurant, Teodósio, which is around 1km from central Guia on the Algoz road. Don’t let that put you off though, its popularity is clear from the hordes who pack out its ample spaces. This is one of the best places in town to sample grilled chicken which is both delicious and good value (full meals cost around €14). The interior is unglamorous, but it’s certainly a buzzing spot.
