Celebrating 80 years of live performances in 2010

Opening in 1930, the Prince Edward Theatre was converted into a dance and cabaret venue in 1935, but suffered extensive damage during the London Blitz. However, it was rebuilt shortly after the war and was converted into a cinema before becoming a theatre again in the 1970s.

One of the most notable musicals produced at the Prince Edward Theatre was Evita, which ran for more than seven years and marked its 3,176th performance in 1986. The influential campaigner and political leader Eva Perón was played by Elaine Page, an acclaimed English actress and singer who released 'The Ultimate Collection' album in 2014 to celebrate half a century in show business.

The venue also held the renowned jukebox musical the Jersey Boys between February 2008 and March 2014, which received the prestigious Best New Musical Laurence Olivier Award, as well as nominations for Best Director, Best Theatre Choreographer, Best Sound Design and Best Actor in a Musical.
