La boheme Description

The English National Opera are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Jonathan Miller's directional debut with one of opera's most enduring and popular stories, La bohème.

This classic, four-act, Italian opera is based on the book 'Scenes from Bohemian Life', by Henri Murger. It was first performed in 1896 to great acclaim and has delighted audiences around the world ever since. The wonderful heartfelt score, composed by Puccini, is conducted by the esteemed Alexander Joel for the ENO.

Is it love at first sight?

The opera, set in 19th century Paris, follows the moving love affair between the poor poet Rodolfo and an equally poor seamstress Mimi. Their youthful passion is tested by ill health and the harsh realities of the impoverished life they share.

Who is in the La boheme cast?

The talented Welsh soprano Natalya Romaniw, and Jonathan Tetelman, the dashing tenor from New York, portray Mimi and Rodolfo's love, from its joyful beginnings to the ultimate heartbreak of her death.

La bohème also stars David Soar as Colline, Nicholas Lester as Marcello, and Nadine Benjamin in the role of Musetta. Schaunard is performed by both Bozidar Smiljanic and Matthew Durkan. This ENO production promises to be an exceptional theatrical and musical treat on every level.
