Porgy and Bess - ENO Description

The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess comes to the London Stage in October and November and tells the story of a tightly-meshed 1920's South Carolina community. This ENO stage production features a 40-strong chorus and full orchestra. Famous for 'Summertime', its jazz, ragtime, and blues music score is a highlight of the show. Directed by James Robinson, the show is a blending of the talents of the Metropolitan Opera and Dutch National Opera.

Conductor John Wilson and director James Robinson form the frontline for Eric Greene as Porgy and Nicole Cabell as Bess. In his debut role as Crown, Nmon Ford joins Latonia Moore as Serena. The actors perform in this collaboration at The London Coliseum with the London National Opera.

The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess is an adaptation by Suzan-Lori Parks and Diedre L. Murray. This is a modern version of the 1935 play, which holds true to its original racial connotations. It tells the story of a disabled beggar Porgy, who falls in love with free-spirited Bess and saves her from making disastrous choices. However, the ghosts of the past come back to haunt Bess.
