The month of August sees "Seymour" making an appearance as the owner of a giant, green monster plant on the London stage. The Little Shop of Horrors musical is directed by Maria Aberg. The London Open Air Theatre will be the venue for this play about a man-eating plant.
The show centres around a rather boring florist, Seymour Krelborn. He works in Mr. Mushnik's Skid Row flower shop, doing menial tasks and spending time fantasising about his kind, sweet co-worker Audrey.
During a solar eclipse, Seymour discovers a strange plant in the shop. He buys it and names it Audrey II. He soon finds out that the plant craves blood when it begins singing for its food and growing ever larger each time Seymour feeds it. The plant's unique characteristics make Seymour famous but eventually its bloodlust gets out of control and Seymour must defeat it.
Based on the book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, the show features music by Alan Menken and is based on the film by Roger Corman. The screenplay is by Charles Griffith, and stars Marc Antolin as Seymour, Renee Lamb as Chiffon, and Forbes Masson as Mrs. Mushnik.
