Swan Lake - English National Ballet Description

In Derek Deane's captivating production for the English National Ballet, it's not hard to see why Swan Lake is one of the most popular ballets of all time, reimagined countless times over the decades by the world's greatest ballet companies.

Swan Lake tells the story of the beautiful Swan Queen Odette, who captures the heart of handsome Prince Siegfried. Together they must find a way to rescue her from the evil curse of sorcerer Rothbart, who forces her to appear as a swan by day, only revealing her true form at night.

Swan Lake on the Grandest Scale Yet

Deane's production showcases Tchaikovsky's beautiful, tragic composition at its best, emphasising the grandeur of the story by bringing up to 60 swans to the stage at one time. The sea of white tutus moving in a delicately choreographed arrangement during the ballet's biggest set-pieces is a sight to behold, offering something new for even the most seasoned ballet expert.

Even if you've never been to the ballet before, you might well recognise the strains of Tchaikovksy's iconic score, played by the English National Ballet Philharmonic Orchestra. Swan Lake is touring the UK this autumn and winter, playing at the Liverpool Empire, then the Bristol Hippodrome during late November, before a new year run at the London Coliseum in January.
