Get into the seasonal spirit and celebrate the holidays by catching a Christmas show in London.
Whether you’re interested in seeing Christmas musicals or a traditional panto, London has plenty of festive theatre to tempt you with this season.
Take your pick of Christmas plays, that’ll leave you feeling full of holiday cheer. You can catch Rhys Ifans in a brand new production of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic, or see a family favourite Christmas movie come to the stage in Nativity the Musical at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo.
It’s just not Christmas without catching a traditional Christmas pantomime, London’s theatres have a great selection of classic shows, packed with famous faces, family-friendly fun (and some Christmas cracker-worthy jokes). The London Palladium’s Dick Whittington might be the most lavish of the lot, with a cast including Julian Clary, Elaine Paige, Nigel Havers, Gary Wilmot and Charlie Stemp, as well as TV favourites Ashley Banjo & Diversity and Paul Zerdin.
Or for another type of traditional treat, how about the ballet? You could catch seasonal classic The Nutcracker, or be swept off your feet in true fairy tale fashion by the return of Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella.
And to help make your kids’ Christmas, London’s theatres have plenty to offer too. Little ones will love returning favourites like Stick Man, The Snowman, Slava’s Snowshow, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Gruffalo’s Child.
As the holidays are perfect for catching up with family and friends, why not get everyone together to enjoy a show? London shows in December 2017’s highlights include Annie and the brand new Big Fish The Musical. While some more adult entertainment can be found in the return of the fabulous La Soiree’s mix of cabaret, circus and burlesque (and this year, the same talented team are putting together a family friendly Little Soiree show).
