If you have made a flight-only booking to fly with Thomas Cook Airlines and you are waiting for a refund update on your cancelled Thomas Cook Airlines flight ticket, we have communicated today to all affected flight-only customers that the refund process is ongoing and expected to take unfortunately longer than originally communicated.
We continue to work closely with our and Thomas Cook acquirers to secure the refund on your behalf for your cancelled flight tickets, however this process is taking longer due to very high volume of claims and process involved to validate each individual case. We hope to have more updates by the end of January 2020 and we anticipate the refunds, once approved, to be processed in patches over the next months.
Please rest assured we will provide further updates as and when the information becomes available to us and that could be before the January 2020 timeline provided.
Thomas Cook Group, including Thomas Cook Airlines, has announced that it has ceased trading with immediate effect.
If you have booked via our site to fly with Thomas Cook Airlines, here’s what you need to know.
Flight + Hotel or Flight + Car hire package bookings
If you have booked a Flight + Hotel or Flight + Car hire package, and haven’t departed yet, we’ll contact you as soon as possible. Given the situation, we are receiving a high volume of calls at the moment, so we kindly ask that you refrain from contacting us. We’re managing all package bookings (both Flight + Hotel and Flight + Car hire) in order of departure date, so we will contact you before your flight was due to leave.
Your package booking is ATOL protected, and we’ll make every effort to try and provide you with options for an alternative flight, as well as ATOL protection for this replacement. In some cases, where no alternative flight is available, you will be entitled to a refund.
If you are already abroad and were due to fly back to the UK with Thomas Cook, don’t worry. You’ll be able to continue your holiday as planned, as the Civil Aviation Authority will be arranging alternative inbound flights up until 6th October 2019. We'll contact you if there is anything you need to know regarding this alternative flight (or if you are due to fly back after this date).
If you have made a flight-only booking to fly with Thomas Cook Airlines and and are yet to travel, we will request a refund of your ticket. We’ll email you as soon as this has been processed, although please be patient, as this takes at least 60 days.
Alternatively, if you have travel insurance which provides cover for airline bankruptcy, you may wish to make a claim with your insurance provider. Please note that you will have to make an alternative flight booking if you still plan to take this trip, as your Thomas Cook Airlines ticket is no longer valid, and can’t be used with another airline.
Please be advised that if you have a return flight booking entirely with Thomas Cook Airlines and decide to book a replacement outbound flight, your return Thomas Cook Airlines flight will not be protected by the CAA.
If you have booked a return flight, but with just one leg operated by Thomas Cook Airlines (for example, an outbound flight with British Airways and return flight with Thomas Cook Airlines), we will request a refund of your Thomas Cook Airlines ticket (which will take at least 60 days). Please note you will have to make alternative travel arrangements for this leg of your journey, as your Thomas Cook ticket is no longer valid and can not be used with another airline. Should you still wish to use your flight with the other airline, you can still do so. Otherwise, if you wish to cancel this flight as well, please contact us and we’ll request a refund on your behalf, subject to that airline’s normal terms and conditions.
If you would like more information, the Civil Aviation Authority has issued this statement and advice via their dedicated website: https://thomascook.caa.co.uk/
"Thomas Cook has confirmed that all the companies in its group have ceased trading, including Thomas Cook Airlines.
As a result, we are sorry to inform you that all holidays and flights provided by these companies have been cancelled and are no longer operating. All Thomas Cook's retail shops have also closed.
The Government and the Civil Aviation Authority are now working together to do everything we can to support passengers due to fly back to the UK with Thomas Cook between 23 September 2019 and 6 October 2019. Depending on your location, this will be either on CAA-operated flights or by using existing flights with other airlines.
If you are already abroad you will find all the information you need about your arrangements to get home on this website.
If you are due to depart from a UK airport with Thomas Cook Airlines, please do not travel to your UK airport as your flight will not be operating and you will not be able to travel.
This repatriation is hugely complex and we are working around the clock to support passengers.
If you are currently abroad and your flight was with Thomas Cook we are providing new flights to return you to the UK. These repatriation flights will only be operating for the next two weeks (until 6 October 2019). After this date you will have to make your own travel arrangements. From a small number of locations, passengers will have to book their own return flights.
For further advice and details of your return journey please read I am currently abroad. Please note that repatriation flights are only available for passengers whose journey originated in the UK.
Up to date information on repatriation flights organised by the CAA can be found here.
If you are currently abroad and due to return to the UK after 6 October 2019, please read the additional information section.
If you are ATOL-protected and are having difficulties with your hotel, please read managing difficulties with accommodation.
PLEASE NOTE: Some of Thomas Cook's package holiday bookings include flights with airlines unrelated to the Thomas Cook Group. If your return flight is not with Thomas Cook's airline, it will still be valid. However other elements of the package, such as accommodation and transfers will be affected.
We are sorry to inform you that all future holidays and flights booked with Thomas Cook are cancelled as of 23 September 2019.
If you are booked on a Thomas Cook Airlines flight, please do not go to your UK airport, as your flight will not be operating. The Civil Aviation Authority’s repatriation programme will not include any outbound flights from the UK.
If you choose to book a new flight with another airline out of the UK, you will not be eligible for a repatriation flight.
PLEASE NOTE: Some of Thomas Cook's package holiday bookings include flights with airlines unrelated to the Thomas Cook Group. If your return flight is not with Thomas Cook's airline it may still be valid. However other elements of the package, such as accommodation and transfers might be affected.
