White Hart Lane Stadium

Home to Tottenham Hotspur, White Hart Lane Stadium is in Tottenham in the north of London. Known amongst Spurs fans as The Lane, the stadium has also played host to everything from American football to boxing.

Football

The origins of the stadium reach as far back as 1899, when Tottenham Hotspurs moved to White Hart Lane and renovated what was a former nursery into a football pitch. Famous stadium developer Archibald Leitch designed a square stadium in the early 20th century and the grounds have been renovated since then, substantially expanding the bulk of the stadium to the current capacity of 36,284. In the 1930’s, before seating became as popular as it is today, 75,038 spectators pressed together to watch Spurs' performance against Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Other uses

While Wembley Stadium was being constructed at the beginning of the century, White Hart Lane hosted England international matches and today sometimes hosts England Under-21's international matches. In the 1990’s the pitch was used for American Football and was the home grounds of the London Monarchs. Boxing matches have also taken place at White Hart Lane Stadium.

Things to do

Tickets for matches can be purchased online or bought from the box office at the stadium itself. Away from the stadium the area is well known for its shops, cafés and park. Tottenham itself has a range of high street shops at its centre, as well as the natural beauty of Bruce Castle Park and Lordship Recreation Ground. A short bus ride will take you to Seven Sisters and from there it’s only a short distance to the bars and restaurants of Stoke Newington or the outdoor facilities at Finsbury Park.
