Lisbon and Porto are the country’s two main cities, and make a great pair of tourist destinations if you’re after somewhere busy to see on your holiday. The cities contain a whole range of hotels to check out, varying from smaller authentic city-style buildings to larger complexes with restaurants and bars on-site, and pools to take a dip in. In Lisbon, you’ll find a range of great architecture. Upon your arrival in the city, you’re greeted by the Belem Tower and Sao Jorge Castle, both of which make for some great photo opportunities. Fans of photography will be able to capture the surrounding scenery and get the perfect shot, and those more interested in getting some more information can join one of the many tours. If you’re taking the kids along, Lisbon has a few more modern attractions, like the Lisbon Oceanarium and Lisbon Zoo, both of which are brimming with wildlife enjoying the Portuguese sun, to keep the kids happy. In Porto, you’ll find stunning scenery running along the sides of the River Douro, where you can take relaxing boat cruises or hire a smaller vessel to explore by yourselves. There is also a collection of historic religious buildings, if you’re looking for a piece of Portuguese history. Try a visit to the Church of Sao Francisco or the Porto Cathedral to see some of the country’s most impressive and historical buildings.
