Greenwich and Blackheath

Greenwich and Blackheath Hotels

The London location of Greenwich and Blackheath hotels means there is a great choice of hotels available with rooms in luxury hotels or in more affordable hotel chains.

Royal Observatory Greenwich

A brilliant place to visit in Greenwich is the Royal Observatory which was built in 1685 and is world famous for its role in the history of astronomy and navigation. The observatory is home to the Prime Meridian of the world, the line dividing the eastern and western hemispheres of the earth. When you visit you won’t want to miss the chance to pose for a photo standing on the line with one foot in each hemisphere.

The observatory also has its very own planetarium which uses real images from spacecraft and telescopes to take you on a tour of distant galaxies. The observatory is the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) which was originally based on observations made for the observatory. Exploring the history of GMT is easy as the observatory has the award-winning Time Galleries which demonstrate the role of time keeping in our daily lives.

The O2 Arena

You will definitely want to take a trip to the O2 Arena which plays host to a huge variety of exciting performers from rock bands to ballet. A more unique way to experience the arena is to climb up over the top of the building. If you climb up on a clear day you will be treated to an amazing view allowing you to see landmarks up to 15 miles away.

If you want an even more special experience then you should try the Twilight Expedition where you climb the building at night and are treated to a magical view of the sparkling city lights.

The Crystal

A truly different attraction you won’t want to miss is The Crystal which is a specially created building that explores the environmental problems with cities and how we can solve them. The exhibition features an amazing range of interactive exhibits that really bring the information to life.

The Crystal building itself is very environmentally friendly and you can get a behind-the-scenes look at its technology with the special tours the centre has on offer. The Crystal also has its own café and gift shop so you can grab a quick bite to eat and a souvenir of your trip.
