Set on London’s Royal Victoria Dock, the Excel London is one of the most important exhibition centres in the UK, hosting shows and events of every kind, and set conveniently close to eateries and cultural hotspots.
One of the major conference and exhibition venues in the UK, the Excel London Exhibition Centre has hosted everything in recent years from the London Boat Show, the Olympics, Grand Designs Live, The Clothes Show London and the G-20 London Summit.
Found in Newham, close to Canary Wharf and with lovely views over the Thames, the centre has everything for a great trip. It’s conveniently close to London City Airport for anyone looking to travel by plane. And there are lots of hotels near Excel London Exhibition Centre and restaurants on site, so you have everything you need on the doorstep if you have to stay close to the action.
If you do feel the urge to stretch your legs and see some of the sights around the venue, there are plenty of great places to keep you entertained.
For starters, the Crystal is a project that takes a look at the future of cities and how they can be made sustainable, so it’s an educational and interesting spot to visit. A ride on the London Cable Car gives you amazing views over the Thames, or you can hop on a boat and discover the waters that way, by booking with a company like Silver Queen River Cruises.
For a bit of light entertainment, head to Brick Lane Music Hall and enjoy a matinee performance and afternoon tea, or a slap-up meal with an evening show. Or to get away from it all, pop to the tranquil green oasis, Thames Barrier Park.
With so many bars and restaurants to choose from at the exhibition centre itself, you may be tempted just to stay on site. But if you do fancy a little walk, there are lots of other eateries to visit close by.
The Oiler Bar is a fun spot to spend an afternoon or evening, La Barrique Wine Café is popular for breakfast, and you can soak up the views of the docks and the O2 Arena from the classy Lands’ End Restaurant.
There are lots of places to stay on site too, but to find a hotel near Excel London Exhibition Centre try the Sunborn London or Novotel London ExCeL – they’re two of the more luxurious retreats. Or for comfy, budget-friendly places check out Ibis London Excel Docklands or Premier Inn London Docklands – Excel.
