Hotels in Yarm

Near the border of North Yorkshire and the borough of Stockon-on-Tees, Yarm is a quiet medieval town with a Methodist church once described by Methodism founder John Wesley as 'the most elegant in England'. This town features an attractive early-Georgian Town Hall, which was built in the Dutch architectural style of the time and overlooks the picturesque cobbled High Street, once home to well over a dozen inns.

The Yarm Railway Viaduct

Because of its sheer size, the Yarm Railway Viaduct is the most recognisable landmark in this town, and comprises 43 arches built in the early Victorian period. The viaduct, which is now Grade II-listed by English Heritage, was designed by the two eminent architects John Bourne and Thomas Grainger, and is part of the railway between York and Stockton.

The Yarm Road Bridge

Originally built in the 13th century, this bridge was redesigned near the turn of the 15th century and was restored and widened in the 19th century. In the English Civil War in the mid-17th century, the Battle of Yarm took place near this crossing, when Parliamentarians defiantly guarded it from the incoming Royalists eager to reach York.

Nearby: Ormesby Hall

The residence of the affluent Pennyman family for almost four centuries, Ormesby Hall is another fine example of Georgian architecture and is now maintained by the National Trust. The building, which surrounds beautifully landscaped grounds, is regularly open to visitors and is often hired for special events such as weddings and conferences.

One of the most popular Yarm Hotels is The Stables at The Vale, which offers great hospitality and very comfortable accommodation. Other reputed places to stay in the town include the friendly and affordable Yarm Guest House, the value-for-money Field View B&B, and the truly exquisite, high-end Crathorne Hall Hotel in nearby Crathorne.

Eating out in Yarm

You can enjoy some very tasty British cuisine at The George and Dragon restaurant, or why not head to Cena Trattoria and treat yourself to some delightful Italian classics. The Muse restaurant, meanwhile, offers delicious continental-themed food, while the Pot & Glass pub provides other delectable local-themed dishes to suit all culinary tastes.
