Hotels in Wotton Under Edge

Wotton-under-Edge is characteristic of many Cotswolds settlements with its attractive stone buildings and quintessential country inns, and is often referred to as 'The Edge' due to its geographical location on the southern fringe of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Whether you're staying in Wotton-under-Edge hotels or just stopping off in the area, try to visit Wotton Hill, which offers fantastic panoramic views of the settlement and the surrounding landscape.

Berkeley Castle

A well-preserved Grade I-listed landmark, Berkeley Castle existed more than 800 years ago, when it was rebuilt by the Berkeley family, who still live here. In fact, this building is one of the oldest castles in England to be continuously inhabited, and is one of the most exclusive wedding venues in Gloucestershire.

Cirencester

In the Roman Empire, Cirencester was called Corinium and was already known for its successful textiles industry and flourishing forum. The settlement is also renowned for its pre-Norman minster church, and still contains the remnants of its Roman amphitheatre, which is one of the largest in the country.

Westonbirt Arboretum

Another short drive from Wotton-under-Edge, the Westonbirt Arboretum, which is also called the National Arboretum, was planted in the Victorian era and contains thousands of trees and plants across an area of around 600 acres. The site, one of the largest tree collections in Europe, if not the world, is best viewed in October or November, when much of the tree foliage transforms into vibrant shades of red, orange and yellow.

Where to eat out

If you're after some superb steaks, you can visit the Falcon Inn, or head to The Swan Hotel Restaurant or the Royal Oak Inn for other delightful local recipes. For some top-notch Indian cuisine, dine at the India Palace restaurant, or, at lunchtime, enjoy some tasty snacks and great coffee at The Edge café.
