Woking has a history that reaches back to the Domesday Book. The remains of Woking Palace can be found on the outskirts of the town, close to the village of Old Woking. Henry VII built the palace from an earlier house in 1503 and both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I remodelled it during their reigns. Little survives today of the palace but it is nevertheless a pleasant place to spend and hour or two. Another important historical area in Woking is Brookwood Cemetery, the largest cemetery in the UK.
