Hotels in West Bromwich

Ideal for watching West Bromwich Albion play at The Hawthorns, West Bromwich hotels are a conveniently located place to stay within easy reach of both Birmingham and Sandwell Valley Country Park.

Sports

One of the major attractions to West Bromwich is West Bromwich Albion Football Club, founded in 1879. The club used to play at a stadium in the town centre until they moved to The Hawthorns on Birmingham Road in 1900. All traces of the original stadium have since gone, with the current stands of the stadium having been built in 1979, 1991 and 2001. West Bromwich Albion Football Club were one of the original 12 clubs that made up the Football League in 1888 and have won seven major trophies – five FA Cups, one Football League title and one Football League Cup. The Hawthorns is also noteworthy for being the highest football ground in the country.

Although the town's sporting scene is massively overshadowed by football, West Bromwich is also home to West Bromwich Dartmouth Cricket Club, an amateur cricket club that was founded in 1834.

History and culture

West Bromwich has a strong heritage in engineering and chemistry, most notably during the Industrial Revolution. There are also a number of historical buildings in the town, including West Bromwich Town Hall, which was built between 1874 and 1875 and is now a Grade II-listed building. One of the oldest buildings in the town is the Grade I-listed West Bromwich Manor House, a medieval timber-framed home that was built by the de Marnham family in the 13th century.

Sandwell Valley Country Park

West Bromwich borders Sandwell Valley Country Park, an award-winning Green Flag park. Perfect for outdoor adventures, Sandwell features plenty of routes for walks and bike journeys that encompass 660 acres of woods, farmland and streams. If you're travelling with family, Sandwell Park Farm and Forge Mill Farm both offer a chance to get face to face with pigs, goats and cows. There is also a large variety of birdlife in Sandwell, and the area is a popular one with bird spotters. Kids will also love the High Rope Aerial Adventure, an exciting course that features everything from climbing towers to zip wires.

Birmingham

A short journey will take you into the centre of Birmingham, one of the UK's biggest cities and home to a large amount of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the National Exhibition Centre and Birmingham Science Museum.
