Lulworth Castle and estate
The impressive and beautifully intact Lulworth Castle was built in the early 17th century by Thomas Howard, 3rd Lord Bindon, to entertain hunting parties for the king and court. The Howards owned it until 1641 when it was purchased by Humphrey Weld, the direct ancestor of the present owners. Today visitors can enjoy exploring the castle, climbing the tower, visiting the Roman Catholic Chapel of St Mary and the 15th-century Church of St Andrew. There are woodland walks, a childrenâ€™s playground and spacious grounds in which to dog-walk and picnic at your leisure.
The Lulworth Estate covers over 20 square miles of the south Dorset countryside, including five miles of the beautiful Jurassic Coast and the renowned landmarks, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. The estate pedigree goes back to before the 11th century.
