Hotels in Wandsworth

Wandsworth is a district of south-west London within the London borough of Wandsworth, located under five miles from central London. To distinguish it from the borough of Wandsworth, it is also known as Wandsworth Town. With great outdoor spaces, fantastic galleries, pubs and restaurants, Wandsworth is a fascinating place to stay and enjoy.

Brewery

Young's brewery in Wandsworth Town is no longer functional, but that does not stop it being an incredible landmark. This is the oldest brewery site in Britain and has given birth to the largest and most successful pub franchise in the country.

Art

The De Morgan Centre is dedicated to the Victorian ceramic artist William De Morgan and his wife Evelyn, a symbolist painter. There are around 250 objects on display including William's 'Blackbird Bottle' (1888-1907), and paintings by Evelyn including 'The Hour Glass' (1904-1905), for which Janey Morris, wife of the designer William Morris, modelled. The De Morgans were involved in a number of social movements of the day, and the centre is fantastic for those who wish to learn about late nineteenth-century social and political history as well as art and design.

Family fun

Bishops Park, just a short walk away from Wandsworth, boasts an urban beach, plus splash pad with interactive water play features. There are also numerous play areas including toddler and junior playgrounds, tennis and basketball facilities and a modern skate bowl. You can also enjoy river walks, meadow strolls, sculptures, rose gardens and a beautiful ornamental lake.

Restaurants and pubs

You simply cannot stay in Wandsworth without visiting The Ship, on the banks of the Thames by Wandsworth Bridge. Open since 1786, it is one of London's most famous, original and endearing pubs, and its extensive outside area is complete with bar, pergola and private heated booths. The barbecue runs until 22:00 every day during the summer months, and the pub is famous for hearty traditional, freshly cooked food, great wine, fantastic hand-pulled beer, its vibrancy and location overlooking the river Thames.

Wandsworth's one and only Michelin starred restaurant, Chez Bruce, overlooks Wandsworth Common, and is among the best restaurants in London.

The Antelope on Mitcham Road in nearby Tooting was founded in the 1800s by Barclays (as in the Bank), who were once known for their beer brewing. Boasting eight hand pumps, they serve an ever-changing selection of regional and locally sourced real ales, and a thoughtful selection of the finest wines and spirits. Serving modern European pub fare, their Sunday roasts are a must-try, but you need to book a SEOSITE_LEVEL_DESCRIPTION to avoid disappointment.

Wandsworth is a gem of a town, and there are many Wandsworth hotels from which to choose, so booking your trip will be a doddle whatever your tastes and budget.
