Hotels in Utrecht

Known for its historic city centre, vibrant cultural scene and beautiful scenery in and outside of the city, Utrecht is a must visit location in the Netherlands. As a popular destination, there are a range of Utrech hotelst to suit a variety of tastes and budget.

Discover Utrecht from the water on a canal cruise or by pedal boat (or even a Venetian gondola!) and while away a sunny afternoon at the Oudegracht or Neude sipping on a famous Utrecht coffee or Dutch beer.

Museums and heritage

The Dom Tower is Utrecht's most famous and most central landmark, a historic church tower dating back to the 14th century. For those who manage the 465-step climb to the top, a spectacular panoramic view of the city awaits.

For those in search of something a little more modern, the Rietveld Schröder House, commissioned and built in the 1920s, still stands out on its otherwise normal residential street as an architectural gem. Its stark black and white exterior and straight lines are indicative of the artistic movement, ‘De Stijl', and it was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2000.

The Museum Speelklok is possibly Utrecht's most unique museum, housing a collection of automatically playing instruments in working condition, such as music boxes, a typical Dutch street organ and carillon clocks. The museum offers regular guided tours so that visitors can discover the capabilities of its musical collection.

Shopping and culture

Utrecht is a market city, with weekly goods markets taking place most days of the week throughout the city.

De Utrechste Bazaar is Utrecht's biggest covered market. Open at the weekends, you can find a variety of goods from fresh local produce and clothes to second-hand goods and even hairdressers! This market also has a great lively atmosphere, with both live music and DJs. Utrecht's two great flower markets, the Flower market Oudegracht and the Flower market Janskerkhof are both open on Saturdays and stock a wide and colourful variety of seeds, plants and bouquets.

Every September and October, Utrecht plays host to the internationally attended Netherlands Film Festival, when the city comes alive with film screenings, debates and parties.

Utrecht also has a maze of small streets filled with interesting creative shops and independent boutiques to entertain serious shoppers. The Twinjstraat is one of Utrecht's oldest shopping streets, featuring specialist shops and concept stores, while the Hoog Catharijne is Utrecht's biggest shopping mall, housing over 160 units.

Green spaces

Despite being a lively urban city, Utrecht has no lack of green open spaces to take a breather and unwind. The Pandhof garden is the beautiful inner courtyard garden of the Dom Church, offering magnificent views of the church and tower, a medieval fountain and plenty of spots to stop and chat. Arguably the most magnificent park in the city of Utrecht is the over 100 year old Wilhelminapark, while the Botanical Gardens at Fort Hoofddijk offers a unique chance to walk among an enormous variety of plants species from all over the world.
