At the harbour and the beach, you can look out to the Isle of Arran and the Ailsa Craig rock formation. The ferry to Arran leaves from Ardrossan, which is a 30-minute drive away. The crossing itself takes just under an hour.

Shops are clustered near the train station, and you can pick up a new outfit and a weekly food shop on the same street. There are several gift shops for souvenirs and seaside sticks of rock.
The nearest major shopping centre is Heathfield Retail Park, next to the airport. It has parking for 800 cars, and KFC and Pizza Hut are both there if you get peckish.
