Hotels in Tenterden

In the picturesque Garden County of Kent, Tenterden is a well-preserved medieval town that originally earned it its livelihood from the wool industry, and was a Cinque Port when the English Channel was much nearer. Today, it is still home to more than more than half a dozen authentic country inns, and is just a short drive from Kent's magnificent southern coast.

From a strategic port to a secluded country village

The settlement, one of the most handsome in Kent, features a special Heritage Trail where you can wander through the village's medieval streets and attractive landmarks, many of which were built from the 16th to the 19th centuries. To learn even more about the heritage of the local area, you can also visit the Tenterden and District Museum, which showcases a millennium of history and has a Victorian classroom.

St Mildred's Church

This charming Anglican church has stood over Tenterden for more than 600 years, and received a new tower in the 15th century. The building also inherited a beautiful new vaulted ceiling in the 19th century, and has received coveted Grade I listed status by English Heritage.

The Kent and East Sussex Railway

A much-loved heritage attraction, the Kent and East Sussex Railway connects Tenterden Town railway station to the rest of Kent, and first opened at the turn of the 20th century. From here, you can take a direct service to Bodiam station, which is in walking distance to one of Britain's finest moated castles, Bodiam Castle.

Where to dine in the town – recommendations
