Originally an 18th-century spa resort, today Streatham is a district of South London and part of the London Borough of Lambeth. Its bustling streets and beautiful common make it a lively and refreshing place to stay.

Streatham Common

Despite being in the sprawling metropolis of London, Streatham has a beautiful slice of the countryside for you to enjoy. Streatham Common is designated as a nature reserve and has areas of woodland as well as wild flower meadows. It's a popular place with joggers and walkers and has its own picnic area.

The common is also home to The Rookery which is a special landscaped garden located at its centre. The Rookery also has a community garden and a café for you to pick up some refreshments.

Ice Rink

Streatham's famous for its ice rink with the area having had a rink for over 80 years. The rink is home to the ice hockey team the Streatham Redskins and it's a great place to watch many of their matches.

If you fancy taking to the ice yourself then you should visit during one of the public sessions where you can hire some skates and give it a go. The centre also has a swimming pool and a gym so you can go for a dip as well.

If you want even more sporting fun then you should head to the Wigmore Tennis Club. The club open since 1911 has eight all-weather courts, a cosy club house and offers coaching.


If you're a fan of jazz then Streatham is a brilliant place for you to visit as it's home to the Hideaway jazz club. The award-winning club showcases lots of upcoming talent in the jazz world as well as holding weekly comedy nights. The club also has its own bar and serves food from a seasonal menu.


Streatham has its own unique and historic library. The library opened in 1890 and was paid for by the philanthropist Henry Tate. The library is a great place to visit if you want to research the area as it has free wifi and computers for public use. The library is also unusual in that it holds a large collection of international books for you to browse.
