Hotels in Skiathos
Set on a small Greek island and close to some of the finest beaches in the Aegean, Skiathos hotels are a fantastic destination if you're looking for sun-drenched sands, picturesque towns and mouthwatering Mediterranean cuisine.
Villages and beaches
There are plenty of picturesque beaches in Skiathos, dotted beside the island's many villages and towns. Aghia Paraskevi on the south coast of Skiathos is home to Platanias Beach, a white sandy stretch that spans 600 metres and is popular with families. The waters here are shallow and ideal for a range of watersports, from snorkelling to night diving. Beside the beach are vendors selling snacks and ice cream while the village itself boasts a selection of welcoming tavernas.
Kanapitsa, also on the south coast of the island, has two Blue Flag beaches as well as a number of secluded coves to explore. Kolios Beach is one of the most popular destinations on the island and is only eight miles from Skiathos Town, while on the western side of the island is Koukounaries, a gorgeous beach area surrounded by pine trees. If you're looking for a party atmosphere, Banana Beach is close to Koukounaries and features a regular line-up of beachside DJs.
Based on the east coast of Skiathos is Achladies Bay, a small fishing village and one of the island's most popular destinations. The Blue Flag beach here is picture-perfect, with clear turquoise waters, golden sands and lush green woodland. Pop into the surrounding tavernas to sample delicious local dishes and cocktails. Kolios beach is only a short drive away, as is Skiathos Town.
The capital of the island is Skiathos Town, a beautiful destination and one of the main filming locations for the movie Mamma Mia! Best explored on foot, Skiathos Town is a labyrinth of tavernas and bars selling delicious meze and moussaka. After a day basking on the town's sublime beach you'll most likely spend the whole evening sampling olives, figs, feta cheese and yoghurt. Aside from treating your taste buds, there are plenty of side-street shops to explore, offering everything from handmade ceramics to bronze jewellery. When night sets in head to one of the town's many bars, where you can sample Greek ouzo and locally made wine.
A short walk from Skiathos Town will take you to the Panagia Evangelistria Monastery, a 19th-century building that features a fascinating collection of artefacts and folk instruments, as well as breathtaking views across pine forests and the Aegean Sea. Also make sure you check out the Evangelistrias Monastery, which features a vineyard run by the monks.
