Hotels in Shepperton

Based in a leafy suburb town in Surrey, Shepperton Hotels offer comforSEOSITE_LEVEL_DESCRIPTION accommodation close to Thorpe Park and Shepperton Studios, and within easy reach of central London.

Suburb town

The history of Shepperton can be traced as far back as 959AD when it was an important shepherding location. Since then the area has developed in relation to London, most notably from the 19th century onwards when the village became increasingly suburbanised. The town today has a number of conservation areas. Church Square in Old Shepperton is surrounded by a number of hotels as well as the King's Head public house. Also in this area is the 18th-century Riverside Manor and the 16th-century timber-framed Old Rectory, both Grade II listed buildings.

Another nearby conservation area is Lower Halliford, which features a number of detached classical three-storey 18th-century riverside houses. Halliford is home to Halliford Manor, dating from the 13th century and visited by famous patrons ranging from Queen Elizabeth I to Percy Bysshe Shelley. Also close to Shepperton is Manygate Lane, where you'll find examples of geometric modernist architecture.

Shepperton Studios

One of the main studios in the British film industry is based in Shepperton, Shepperton Studios. With a history dating back to the 1930s, the studios are a staple location for decade's worth of films. Some of the films to have been made on location at Shepperton Studios include The Third Man, Dr Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Shakespeare in Love, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Gravity.

Theme Parks and Royal Palaces

A short journey eastward along the M3 will take you to Thorpe Park, one of the UK's most popular attractions and an excellent choice if you're travelling with kids in tow. In the other direction to the west of Shepperton is Hampton Court Palace – the royal palace and grounds of Henry VIII and a must-see for history buffs.

Further afield

Within easy driving distance of Shepperton is Ascot, home to the world-famous Ascot Racecourse. Also within easy reach of the town is London, full to the brim with historical and cultural attractions ranging from the Houses of Parliament to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
