Hotels in Seville
One of the warmest destinations in Europe, Seville is an awe-inspiring ancient city that is home to an extraordinary Old Town district and features the Cathedral, Alcázar and Archivo de Indias UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Andalusian capital is also famed for its delicious cuisine, one of the best-known dishes of which is the Gazpacho cold soup, comprising garlic, olive oil, vinegar, vibrant paprika, earthy cucumber, tomato and bread.
The Cathedral
The world's largest Gothic cathedral, Seville Cathedral is more than 500 years old and took almost 130 years to complete. The church is overlooked by the 104-metre-high Giralda, a spectacular bell tower that was designed in the distinctive Renaissance style, and work began on the original cathedral more than 800 years ago. In terms of volume, the church is even larger than Rome's St Peter's Basilica and London's St Paul's, and is a testament to Seville's commercial success following the fall of the Moors.
The Alcázar of Seville
An exceptional mudéjar landmark, the Alcázar is just a short walk from the cathedral and has a unique blend of Arabic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. The palace surrounds enchanting exotic gardens with Arabic and European influences, and is noted for its beautifully preserved Dome of the Ambassador's Hall.
The Plaza de España
Another must-see, the Plaza de España is a majestic Renaissance-Revival-themed plaza that was built in the 1920s and was a filming location for the world-renowned film 'Lawrence of Arabia' (1962). Every inch of this site is like an artistic masterpiece, from its beautiful ceramic titles (azulejos) and scenic canal bridges, to the imposing central balcony and magnificent portico.
The María Luisa Park
The main green space in the city, María Luisa Park was once owned by the grand 17th-century Palace of San Telmo, but was sold to the public near the end of the 19th century. The site, which is 100 acres and next to the Plaza de España, almost feels like a tropical oasis with its tall palm trees and other exotic plants, all of which thrive in Seville's warm climate.
Accommodation
The Alfonso XIII Hotel and the Hotel Palacio de Villapanes are among the most luxurious Seville Hotels and are ideal for special events, from honeymoons to well-earned weekend breaks.
