Hotels in Scunthorpe

Set in an industrial town in the north of England, Scunthorpe Hotels are a great choice for exploring north Lincolnshire's rich Victorian heritage and attractive surrounding countryside.

The area around Scunthorpe has been a mining location from as early as the Roman period. It was with the discovery of iron ore in 1859 that the town really began to grow, and Scunthorpe subsequently became an important industrial centre during the Victorian period. One of the best places to learn about the area's rich industrial heritage is the North Lincolnshire Museum. Here you'll find a range of informative exhibitions detailing north Lincolnshire's history as far back as the Bronze Age. During the summer there are also Steelworks train tours organised by the Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society.

Country homes

Close to Scunthorpe is Normanby Hall, a 300-acre estate and Regency mansion dating from 1825. An excellent location for both family rambles through the woods or romantic strolls beside the mansion, Normanby Hall is one of the area's most popular destinations. Visiting the mansion itself is a fantastic way to learn about Regency history and the grounds are an ideal destination for picnics.

Shopping and Entertainment

Scunthorpe has a range of high street and independent shops if you're planning to enjoy some retail therapy. If the weather is poor or if you're looking to cool down from the heat, The Pods is a fun indoor pool centre and a great place to visit – especially if you're travelling with kids in tow. Scunthorpe also has a number of golf courses, including Ashby Decoy Golf Club and Holme Hall Golf Club, as well as a selection of cafés, restaurants and pubs.

Further afield

Drive east from Scunthorpe and you'll soon come to Grimsby beside the coast. If you drive south you'll reach the historical city of Lincoln, where you'll find Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle. Head west and you'll hit Doncaster and Sheffield.
