Hotels in Puerto Rico

A sunny resort on the south-west coast of Gran Canaria, Puerto Rico is famous for having year-round sunshine and is one of the most popular resorts in the Canary Islands. Originally a small fishing port, Puerto Rico was built up to meet tourist demands, and is now a beautiful, family-friendly area with restaurants, bars, attractive promenades, great shopping and an amazing landscape. With less bustle than its neighbours, the resort offers the perfect family holiday, with a great choice of Puerto Rico hotels.

Natural volcanic landscape

The island of Gran Canaria owes its stunning yet rugged landscape to volcanic origins. Volcanic rocky ravines created thousands of years ago have now been developed to create a resort catering for everyone's needs. In stark contrast to the backdrop of the hard cliffs, Puerto Rico has a small sandy beach in its centre and two pretty harbours.

Puerto Rico has two commercial centres housing the majority of shops and restaurants in the resort. There are also numerous shops selling everything from tourist gifts and souvenirs to duty free electronics along the promenade.

Family adventures

A short walk from the far end of the main commercial centre, visitors will find a water park, Atlantida, which offers fun-packed water slides and thrilling rides. Especially popular with families, there is something here for everyone.

Take a boat ride from the harbour and go whale and dolphin spotting, a popular half-day trip. Or catch a ferry to the neighbouring island of Tenerife and spend the day with killer whales and dolphins at the fabulous Loro Park.

About a 20-minute drive, or a 30-minute boat ride from Puerto Rico, is the picturesque fishing village of Puerto de Mogán. This popular quaint resort attracts many, especially on Fridays when the market sets up on the harbour. Within the resort are small canals which link the fishing harbour to the marina, earning Mogán the nickname 'Little Venice'.

Food and drink

Puerto Rico has just about every type of food available within a small area. Whether you want a juicy steak, traditional Spanish tapas, fresh seafood, Chinese, Indian or a good old-fashioned burger, this is the place to be.

Try Minanas for a great home-cooked Spanish meal in a traditional setting or Cosi Come Sei for a fantastic Italian meal of pasta or pizza. Freshly caught seafood is on offer at Grill Costa Mar while the Las Vegas Steak House does exactly what it says on the sign.

For a one-off fee, guests can visit Garbo's in nearby Maspalomas, which has been running successfully for almost 20 years. Here, you will be served a delicious meal by the polite and friendly waiting staff one minute, who will be up on stage singing and dancing the next. A fantastic evening's entertainment and a wonderful dinner to boot.
