Hotels in Porthleven

Porthleven is a delightful coastal village that is on the edge of what can only be described as one of Cornwall's most spectacular sandy beaches. Like many Cornish settlements, the village has been traditionally reliant on fishing, and is further south than any other port in the country.

This coast is also renowned for its excellent surfing conditions, and is relatively underdeveloped, which is why beaches here tend to be somewhat less crowded than other locations in South West England. One of the highlights of the local calendar is the Food Heritage and Food Festival, which takes place every spring and includes superb show cooking and live entertainment.

Loe Pool

Cornwall's largest freshwater lake, Loe Pool is divided from the Atlantic by a substantial shingle heap and is part of the picturesque Penrose Estate. The area is revered for its wonderful spring flower displays, and is adjacent to two breathtaking sandy coves.

Lizard Point – the most southerly point of the British mainland

Just beneath the 50th parallel north circle of latitude is Lizard Point, which overlooks enormous sea cliffs and was the site of a formidable invasion during the Spanish Armada in July 1588. The Lizard Peninsula, which is in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, also features historic Lizard Lighthouse, which dates back to the 1750s and now includes a special heritage centre, which opened in 2009. The peninsula is the location of Kynance Cove, another iconic Cornish landmark that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
