This attractive market settlement is best known for its picturesque All Saints' Church and is on the edge of the scenic, gently rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds.

The Church

A prestigious Grade I Listed structure, All Saints' Church was built in the 12th century and was remodelled several times in subsequent centuries. However, a church has existed at this site since before the invasion of William the Conqueror, which was founded by the Roman missionary Paulinus in the 7th century.

The Burnby Hall Gardens

Featuring one of the most impressive hardy water lily collections in Europe, the Burnby Hall Gardens include two beautiful lakes populated with large numbers of goldfish. The gardens are also home to the Stewart Museum, which showcases the numerous artefacts acquired by the adventurer Major Percy Marlborough Stewart, who inherited the gardens in the Edwardian period.

The Yorkshire Air Museum

Opened in the 1980s, the Yorkshire Air Museum is Britain's most important independently operated air museum, and contains a significant collection of aircraft used during the First and Second World Wars. The award-winning venue organises the Allied Air Forces Memorial Day each September, and even has branches in France and Canada.

York

See one of Britain's most enchanting cathedrals, York Minster, and visit the National Railway Museum to learn more about the history of the world's oldest railway network. York is also the location of one of Britain's most attractive streets, The Shambles, which is known for its fine timber-framed buildings and high concentration of historic independent shops.
