Hotels in Plockton

Thanks to its relatively mild winters and lack of frosts, Plockton contains many exotic plants that you wouldn't normally expect to see this far north of the Mediterranean. This is an area of Scotland where you can really escape the demands of modern working life, breathing in the exceptionally fresh Atlantic air as you observe the strikingly photogenic landscapes that surround you.

A Scottish Conservation Village

The Plockton area is especially popular with cyclists and hikers due to its ease of access to the breathtaking mountain walks of the Scottish Highlands and the Western Isles.

The village is next to the pictorial shores of Loch Carron, a sheltered sea loch overlooked by the ruins of Strome Castle, which was established in the 15th century. One of the most popular Plockton hotels and restaurants is the Plockton Hotel and Inn, which offers comfortable, elegantly presented accommodation and deliciously fresh seafood recipes and other great dishes.

Duncraig Castle

Dating back to the 1860s, Duncraig Castle is one of the Highlands' most impressive mansions, and is noted for its distinctive Scottish Baronial architecture. The building, beneath a backdrop of dramatic mountain scenery, is now a deluxe bed and breakfast establishment, and can be easily identified from Plockton itself.

The Isle of Skye

The largest island in the Scottish Inner Hebrides, Skye has been inhabited for thousands of years and is revered for its sweeping bays, prominent peaks, and unspoilt white sandy beaches. The rocky hill of The Storr has been especially popular with hikers over the years, and was the site of the biggest environmental artworks exhibit in Britain, in 2005. Skye is linked to the Scottish mainland via the Skye Bridge, which was built in the 1990s and is approximately 500m long, although a number of mainland ports provide regular ferry services to settlements on the island.

Other places to stay and eat in the area

Consider the hospitable, stylish Haven Guest House, the Seabank Bed & Breakfast, MacKenzie's B&B, or book a stay at the charming Balmacara Hotel in nearby Balmacara. For other tantalising Scottish dishes, consider the Plockton Shores Restaurant, or choose the convenient Harbours Fish Bar for some fantastic pizzas, fish & chips, and more excellent fast food.
