Hotels in Phu Quoc

Still relatively unknown among international tourists, Phu Quoc is an exceptionally photogenic Vietnamese island just a short boat journey from the tropical coast of Cambodia. The island, which comprises a vast jungle, has unparalleled natural beauty and features some of the cleanest and least-spoilt sandy beaches anywhere on earth.

The beaches

On the northwest coast of Phu Quoc, you can find Ganh Dau Beach, which is quite secluded and a great spot for witnessing spectacular sunsets. Cua Can beach, meanwhile, can be accessed by walking along a series of wooden bridges in the adjacent village of Cua Can, and is probably one of the island's most remote beaches, although certainly no less aesthetically pleasing. Another fantastic sandy bay near the southern fringe of the island is Bai Sao Beach, which, like many other Phu Quoc beaches, is fairly quiet and unspoilt, and is overlooked by towering palm trees.

Places of interest

The Cua Temple (Dinh Cau Rock), a fascinating lighthouse and Buddhist place of worship, was designed in the 1930s and offers great views of the fishing boats on the Duong Dong River as it meets the sea. If you're looking for some outstanding skin cream and lotion to use during your stay, consider visiting The Green Boutique, one of Phu Quoc's most popular speciality shops.

Thanks to its abundant aquatic life and very clear sea water, Phu Quoc is also a coveted destination for scuba diving and snorkelling. Some of the best known clubs include the Blue Coral Diving Phu Quoc, the Flipper Diving Club, and Rainbow Divers-Phu Quoc.

Hotel resorts on the island

There are plenty of excellent Phu Quoc hotels to choose from, but if you're looking for somewhere that's conveniently located and budget friendly, choose the Cassia Cottage - The Spice House, which overlooks a wonderful beach. Other great picks include the chic Salinda Phu Quoc Island Resort and Spa or La Veranda Resort Phu Quoc - MGallery Collection.

Restaurant ideas

The island has dozens of highly rated restaurants serving all kinds of cuisines, but if you're interested in some delightful Spanish and international dishes, head to ITACA Resto - Lounge in Duong Dong. For some fabulous, authentic Vietnamese dishes, choose Saigon Pho, dine at the Winston's Burgers & Beer for some tasty American classics, or visit Ganesh for some mouthwatering Indian food.

How to get to Phu Quoc and when to visit

There are regular daily flights to the island from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, although you can also take the ferry from the mainland ports of Ha Tien and Rach Gia. For the best weather and optimum swimming conditions, try to visit the island between October and May, which is the dry season.
