Hotels in Old Hunstanton

A small settlement on the north Norfolk coastline, Old Hunstanton adjoins the tip of its much larger neighbour, the seaside resort of Hunstanton. Made up of pretty fairytale cottages, vast open beaches, sand dunes and breathtaking scenery, this a perfect family seaside holiday destination. We have some wonderful Old Hunstanton hotels from which to explore this wonderful area.

History and sights

Old Hunstanton can trace its history right back to 855AD and has a long association with St Edmund, the once King of East Anglia. Edmund led a small army against the invading Vikings, but after refusing to give up his Christian faith, he was captured, tied to a tree and shot by Danish archers. Local legend says that when St Edmund first came to the UK in 855AD he was shipwrecked near the Old Hunstanton cliffs. Monks subsequently built a chapel nearby, the ruins of which have been converted into a beautiful garden of remembrance.

Things to do

Those who enjoy art and crafts will find plenty to do in Old Hunstanton with both, along with antiquing, thriving in the area. There are regular demonstrations of flower crafts, jewellery making, glasswork, pottery making, wood turning and more at Le Strange Old Barns. These all make for wonderful gifts at very reasonable prices and can be bought in the on-site gift shop.

A stroll along the sand dunes may offer not only stunning views, but also a chance sighting of an exciting sea rescue, as Hunstanton RNLI is located nearby. The brave volunteers launch the lifeboat regularly from the beach to help keep visitors safe, making Old Hunstanton one of the safest bathing beaches in the UK. In recent years, the village has also become a mecca for kite surfing due to the winds and long, wide beaches.

Those less active may prefer to pass the time in the sun with a gentle game of pitch and putt, whereas more serious golfers may prefer to visit Hunstanton Golf Course, voted one of the top 100 golf courses in the UK.

How about a trip to Hunstanton itself, for those who want to experience all a traditional lively UK seaside resort has to offer? Slot machines, fairground rides, swimming, shopping – Hunstanton has it all.
