History and sights
Old Hunstanton can trace its history right back to 855AD and has a long association with St Edmund, the once King of East Anglia. Edmund led a small army against the invading Vikings, but after refusing to give up his Christian faith, he was captured, tied to a tree and shot by Danish archers. Local legend says that when St Edmund first came to the UK in 855AD he was shipwrecked near the Old Hunstanton cliffs. Monks subsequently built a chapel nearby, the ruins of which have been converted into a beautiful garden of remembrance.

A stroll along the sand dunes may offer not only stunning views, but also a chance sighting of an exciting sea rescue, as Hunstanton RNLI is located nearby. Those less active may prefer to pass the time in the sun with a gentle game of pitch and putt, whereas more serious golfers may prefer to visit Hunstanton Golf Course, voted one of the top 100 golf courses in the UK.
