Northwich is an historic town in the county of Cheshire, in the north-west of England. The town has been settled since Roman times, meaning there are plenty of interesting historical attractions to visit here. Northwich hotels also offer an excellent base from which to visit the nearby city of Chester and further afield.

Stockley Farm

Northwich is full of fun for the whole family and there is no better place to start your action-packed day than at Stockley Farm. The farm is set in acres of stunning Cheshire countryside and includes an incredible Birds of Prey Centre.

Bird-lovers will be in heaven at the centre. Every visit includes an informative tour of all the aviaries. After the tour there are a number of flight shows exhibiting the prowess of these wonderful creatures.

If you are feeling peckish after looking at all the birds, the Willow Barn Tea Room has a fine selection of homemade cakes and all the tea you could ever wish for.

For those more interested in flightless animals, Stockley Farm is also a working organic farm with plenty of livestock. There are ponies, goats and lambs, all of which need to be petted and fed. If you are curious about the agricultural side of things, there is a nature trail through the fields and vegetable patches that is a truly enlightening experience.

Old Northwich

The town has a rich history and there are plenty of interesting things to see and do if you want to learn more about it. Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse is housed within an old workhouse building and features fascinating exhibits detailing the history and industry of Northwich.

Just down the road is the Dock Road Pumping Station which makes the perfect place to round off your journey into Northwich's past. This Edwardian sewage pumping station might not sound like the kind of place you want to spend your afternoon. However, the building itself is beautiful and the museum inside details the incredible story of modern sewage treatment.

Food and drink

After visiting an old sewage pump, you may be forgiven for not having much of an appetite. Nevertheless, this will quickly change once you see the fantastic array of excellent restaurants that Northwich boasts.

Kanya Café Bar & Bistro is a local favourite serving up classic British food with a modern twist. If you are after something slightly more substantial, The Indian, does exactly what it says on the tin, with a menu full of delicious curries.

To cool down your mouth after a spicy biryani, head to the Witton Chimes, a great old pub in the centre of town. The Chimes has a brilliant atmosphere, especially on weekends, when there is sometimes live music to dance the night away to.
