Hotels in Monte Carlo

Renowned for its glamorous people and outstanding location, the small Principality of Monaco offers it all. Sandwiched between the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean with an imposing mountain range as a backdrop, Monte Carlo is surrounded by a dramatic natural landscape. There are a number of Monte Carlo hotels available, to cater for all budgets, along with a multitude of restaurants, bars and cafes where you can experience the local cuisine.

Cultural highlights:

A great way to view the city is via a Hop-on and Hop-off bus, which allows you to explore the city at your leisure. Learn about the history of Monaco with an ongoing commentary as you travel around, safe in the knowledge you don't have to find a parking space.

For a touch of the theatrical, visit the Opera de Monte-Carlo, which has gained international acclaim for its talented acts and artistic innovation. From classical opera to concert performances, all are held in this magnificent building.

High up on a hill, the Place du Palais offers spectacular views of the city. Watch the changing of the guard before taking a guided tour of the royal residence in all its splendour. Visit the final resting place of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco in Saint Paul's Church, with its elegant architecture and peaceful setting.

If you plan to visit in May, watch out for one of the most celebrated motorcar races in the world, the annual Monaco Grand Prix. With its punishing course and glamorous setting, it's a spectacular event not to be missed.

Things to see:

The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco offers a tantalising glimpse beneath the waves. A number of aquariums and exhibitions are available to both educate and entertain the whole family. With over 6,000 species and sizable collection of natural history, there's no shortage of things to see.

For a spot of people-watching, there's nowhere more impressive than Casino Square. Take in the opulent ambience that exudes from the beautifully ornate buildings, historic statues, stylish cafés and high-end designer shops that can be found around the square. Just sit back and sip a beer while you watch a steady stream of super cars such as Ferraris, Bugattis and Bentleys come and go. For a fee, you can also gain entry to the iconic Casino of Monte-Carlo where you can try your luck at roulette, or wander around the surrounding parkland and manicured gardens.

Take a stroll around the harbour with the gentle sway of its luxury yachts. Watch the sunset over a glass of wine, looking out across the bay. Alternatively, take a walk along the promenade and revel in the peaceful ambience of the Japanese Gardens, complete with authentic teahouse, koi carp and pavilion.

Dip your toes in the sea as you wander along Larvotto Beach with an ice cream. This is the ideal place for beach sports, where jet skiing, windsurfing and sea parachuting are available between May and September.
