An attractive English coastal town Minehead sits just a stone's throw away from Exmoor national park and has been a popular holiday resort since Victorian times.

Exmoor National Park

Minehead is an excellent gateway to the English countryside and if you are a keen walker you will definitely find yourself at home.

The Exmoor National park is famous the world over and is best explored by foot. The Coleridge Way is a 36-mile footpath which follows the route of walks taken by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

An even more challenging walk is the South West Coast Path which is Britain's longest national trail and starts in Minehead and stretches some 630 miles all the way to Poole.

Museum and Theatre

A relaxing way to spend an evening in Minehead is to visit the Regal Theatre. The Theatre is located in the centre of Minehead and runs lots of local productions as well as hosting touring companies.

Minehead also has its own unique museum run and maintained by a group of local volunteers. It contains exhibitions on the history of the town including information about a major fire the town experienced in 1791.

Local Food

Mine head is the perfect place to try Britain's well known meal, fish and chips. One of the best fish and chips restaurants to try is PipsFish which uses fresh local produce and even uses local Exmoor Ale to make their batter.

Steam Railway

Why not take a trip back to Minehead's Victorian past by taking a ride on the West Somerset Railway. The railway has a traditional steam train and the heritage line runs 22 miles in length. The journey's a brilliant way for you to enjoy the English coastline and it's easily accessible from the Minehead station.

You can continue your trip back in history by taking the short ten minute journey out of Minehead to Dunster village where you can explore the stunning Dunster Castle. Originally a motte and bailey castle but now a country house it can be seen towering above the trees on its hill top perch.

Along with the castle there's also a Mediterranean-style garden with its own wooded pathways and a special garden gazebo with an exhibition on the history of all the gardens.
