A day at the races
Lying just to the east of town is Market Rasen Racecourse. Occupying a beautiful setting with fantastic views of the Lincolnshire Wolds, the site hosts jump racing events all year round. Highlights in the racing calendar include Ladies' Day in June and Summer Plate Day the following month.
Away from the racetrack, there's plenty going on in and around Market Rasen to keep visitors entertained. Hall Farm Park is located a few miles north of the town centre and is home to a real working farm. Meet the animals, learn about farming techniques from a bygone age in the heritage area, visit the children's play area and enjoy a tractor ride through the estate.
If you're feeling energetic, consider a trip to High Ropes Adventure where you'll be able to spend an adventurous day swinging through the trees. For a more sedate experience, head to The Garden House in Saxby. Here you'll find eight acres of beautiful gardens to explore, along with wildflower meadows and peaceful woodland.
The town's street market is held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and in recent years much has been done to strengthen the market, attract new stallholders and increase the number of businesses in town selling local products.
The first Saturday of every month sees the town host its Big Market, an event which features up to 40 stalls selling everything from crafts and gifts to artisan food and drink.
Out and about
Try and make the most of the stunning scenery and lush countryside if you're visiting Market Rasen. There local area is awash with walking routes and cycle paths. Pay a visit to Willingham Woods, a large pinewood forest to the east of town. Chambers Farm Woods is another great option. It lies to the south of Market Rasen on the site of a medieval woodland and is home to ancient lime trees and a large variety of butterflies.
