Things to do

Start your visit at Harborough Museum and Library, located in the Symington Building. The most famous part of the museum's collection centres around The Hallaton Treasure – a haul of more than five thousand silver and gold coins discovered in south-east Leicestershire in 2000.

Take a walk through town to find St Dionysius Parish Church and its imposing spire reaching 160 feet into the air. Nearby you'll find the town's timber-framed Old Grammar School, a beautiful Grade I listed building that dates from the early-17th century. If you're feeling active, consider a walk around Foxton Locks, a series of ten locks on the Grand Union Canal. Spend some time watching the colourful boats navigate their way through before retiring to the Foxton Locks Inn for refreshments.

Rockingham Castle is a 20-minute drive to the east of town and a wonderful destination for a day out that all the family will love. Built on the instruction of William the Conqueror, the castle has been constantly occupied for almost 1,000 years. Take a tour of the historic buildings, wander through the 19th-century rose garden and stop for a drink in the estate's tea rooms.

If you're a fan of shopping then Market Harborough will not disappoint. The town has a wonderful mix of shops, some belonging to national chains and others to independent retailers.

Wander through the pedestrianised St Mary's Place shopping centre to find a wide variety of shops. Close by is Harborough Market, the town's indoor marketplace which is filled with stalls selling everything from craft items and clothing to fresh produce.
