Hotels in Lymm
Most noted for its Grade I listed Lymm Cross, which dates back to the 17th century, Lymm is a quiet canal village with many well-preserved, attractive historic buildings. The community also benefits from excellent transport links to the bustling cities of Liverpool and Manchester via the local motorway network.
The churches of St Peter's and St Mary's
On the edge of the village, in Oughtrington, enchanting St Peter's Church was designed in the 1870s and emulates the architectural style of a medieval Gothic building. Meanwhile, St Mary's Church is a little older, and dates back to the 1850s, although this site has been a place of worship since at least the Norman period.
This fine moated house has stood over the village for more than 400 years and was originally the home of the affluent Domville family. Lymm Hall was eventually sold in the 1840s, however, and has been occupied by the numerous owners ever since, although the building is now divided into several high-end apartments.
Other historic landmarks worth seeing in the village include the 18th-century Grantham's Bridge, the symmetrical brick and timber-framed Burford Lane Farmhouse, and the 18th-century Lloyd Bridge.
Taking place annually since 1999, the Lymm Festival includes dozens of fun cultural festivities, from live concerts and stand-up comedy to art exhibitions and delicious feasts. Another important event in the local calendar is the Lymm Historic Transport Day, which includes a special model railway exhibition and showcases hundreds of historic vehicles and other transport-related artefacts.
