Hotels in Luton

A large town in Bedfordshire, Luton is famously home to London Luton Airport, which opened in 1938 and is one of England's major airports.

The airport provides a great reason for UK and international travellers to visit the town. Luton itself however, has a variety of attractions for all ages, and there a number of Luton hotels from which to explore the area.

Hats and cars

Luton was famous for hat-making for many years, and was also home to a large Vauxhall Motors factory. While the factory has now ceased to build cars, the head office of Vauxhall is still situated in the town. Car production at the plant began in 1905, continuing until 2002, and now only commercial vehicle production still occurs.

Things to do

Situated in the south of Luton, Stockwood Park is home to the Stockwood Discovery Centre. Here many important displays of geology and architecture can be seen, including the famous Wenlock Jug.

The Wardown Park Museum is situated in the beautifully landscaped Wardown Park, and offers visitors a look at a Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire regimental gallery, along with many other regularly changing exhibition galleries.

The largest one day carnival in the whole of Europe, the Luton Carnival takes place annually on the May Spring Bank Holiday. It attracts over 100,000 people, with over 2,000 participants from across the world. Distinctly Caribbean in flavour, Luton's Asian, British and Irish communities, as well as the town's schools, also make large contributions.

Food and drink

With such diverse communities and culture prevalent all over Luton, you'll be hard pressed not to find a cuisine you love. Try Villa Ada for a great Italian meal or the Nakorn for an exotic Thai feast. O'Shea's Bar and Grill serves up fantastic, stomach-warming traditional pub grub, while Wigmore Fish Restaurant offers some of the best fish and chips in the whole of the UK.
