Hotels in Long Eaton

Long Eaton can be found nestled in the Derbyshire countryside, where you will find plenty of attractive hotels located at the heart of this small and bustling town. Visitors to Long Eaton can fill their time exploring the outdoors at the charming Trent Lock and Attenborough Nature Reserve or meandering through the town's historic architecture.

With a history dating back to the 7th century, many of Long Eaton's buildings are remnants of the town's boom during the Industrial Revolution, when lace-making became important to Long Eaton's prosperity. Buildings such as the 19th-century Harrington Mill offer a glimpse into the town's rich history.

History and architecture

By simply taking a walk through the centre of Long Eaton you will come across several of the town's most striking buildings. The Long Eaton Hall, once a luxurious private residence, is a fine example of Palladian style. The town's parish church, St Laurence's, is a Grade II listed building, dating back as far as the Norman Conquest and boasting a 19th-century organ.

Harrington Mill was Long Eaton's largest lace-making mill, and one of the largest in the UK. It is located on the outskirts of the town and the historic building features typical 19th-century architectural features such as red bricks, cast-iron windows and turrets.

Local culture

A close proximity from Long Eaton hotels, the busy Long Eaton Market operates along the high street every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, selling a mixture of local food, products and crafts from permanent and temporary stalls.

The newly built Duchess Theatre is Long Eaton's creative centre, putting on a variety of concerts, plays, films and pantomimes throughout the year.

Outdoor activities

Just to the west of the town is West Park, where you can walk alongside the canal, find children's playgrounds and see the park's old pavilion. A short trip out of Long Eaton will bring you to the Attenborough Nature Reserve, comprised of 145 hectares of lakes and meadows that are home to rare birds, including the Purple Heron and Penduline Tit. Visitors can also take advantage of the educational facility at the Attenborough Nature Centre.

Only a short walk away from Long Eaton's town centre is the River Trent. A local highlight is the Trent Lock, a picturesque setting where the River Trent meets the River Soar. Here you can find a busy sailing centre and several traditional English pubs with outside seating.
