Hotels in Lindos
Located on the breathtakingly beautiful island of Rhodes, Lindos Hotels offer accommodation at the foot of an ancient acropolis, surrounded by the opal blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
Founded by the Dorians around 2,000BC, it would be an understatement to say that Lindos has a rich history. Byzantine, Frankish and Turkish remains can all be found in and around the town. The first place to visit on your map will most likely be the Acropolis of Lindos, blending Byzantine and Dorian architecture and situated on the top of a 116m-high rock. Around the Acropolis you'll be able to find the Byzantine Church of Agios Ioannis and the 4th-century Temple to Athena. If you don't think you can make the walk, there are donkey rides that will take you to the top for a small price.
Also worth visiting during your stay is the ornate Church of the Assumption and the stone Kleoboulous's tomb, close to the bay area.
Head towards the water in Lindos and you'll find the sandy Main beach as well as the nearby Pallas Beach. Both are great for lounging around with a good book and watching the waters lap against the shore. The shallow waters mean that the area is perfect for swimming with kids, and if the area is too busy you can also head to St Paul's Beach on the western side of the acropolis.
Food and drink
Greece is famous for its spectacular cuisine and Lindos is a fantastic place to treat your taste buds with some local specialties. Melia Cafe and Bakery offer both delicious food and drink as well as stunning views of the acropolis from the rooftop seating area. Stay up late and head to the Courtyard Bar for a taste of ouzo and live bouzouki music.
Travel outside of Lindos and you'll find that the island of Rhodes offers both ancient history and sublime natural beauty. Seven Springs has a labyrinth of footpaths connecting trickling streams and lush forests. Kamiros is an ancient city where you'll find the ruins of the Mycenaean necropolis, while Rhodes itself is a gorgeous medieval city and home to the Acropolis of Rhodes.
