Markets

Lewisham itself is a bustling area with a variety of excellent shops, cafés and pubs close by. The core of the community is Lewisham Street Market, where you'll find everything from exotic fruits to cheap shoes on sale. Within easy walking distance is Deptford which is home to even more shops and cafés as well as Deptford Market.

Greenwich

A short stroll from Lewisham will take you to Greenwich, a prestigious area in south-east London with a rich history and beautiful spaces to explore. The Royal Observatory, first commissioned in 1675 by King Charles II, is a crucial location to the history of astronomy and navigation. The observatory is the site of the prime meridian, which is the basis of Greenwich Mean Time. Equally interesting is the National Maritime Museum, the largest museum of its kind in the world and the best place to learn about Britain's naval past. An important relic from that naval past is the Cutty Sark, a British tea clipper dating from 1869 and currently a museum close to the River Thames in Greenwich.

Aside from museums, Greenwich Park is a fantastic place for a picnic or a few hours spent lounging around with a good book. The area also has some of London's best pubs and a collection of unique boutique shops and market stalls to explore.

New Cross

The area around New Cross is a haven dominated by Goldsmiths College, one of the country's most prominent art schools. From chilling out in one of the many surrounding coffee shops to catching a live exhibition in a backstreet gallery, New Cross is a great place to go if you're looking to catch up with culture.

New Cross, like Greenwich, also has some great pubs. The New Cross Inn and the Amersham Arms are two of the most popular, with regular bands and DJs playing late into the night.

Central London

Hop on the DLR or train at Lewisham railway station and within a few minutes you'll be in Central London. From the iconic Tower Bridge to the magnificent Houses of Parliament, London is full to burst with historical and cultural marvels.
