Hotels in Kefalos
Near the southwestern fringe of the spectacular Greek island of Kos is Kefalos, an ancient peninsula settlement that attracts many holidaymakers from all over the world during the summer.
Kos, just a few kilometres from the Turkish mainland, surrounds the pristine emerald waters of the Aegean Sea, and preserves many fine ancient and medieval landmarks that are the legacies of past empires. One of the main reasons so many people come to visit Kefalos is so that they can spend some well-earned time on its wonderful Agios Stefanos Beach, where you can witness terrific cliff views and enjoy perfect sunbathing conditions.
Attractions in Kos:
One of the most popular attractions in Kos, Asklepion is a vast ruined site that is approximately 2,400 years old and is the location of a former medical school. The ruins, just one of more than 300 Asklepions to exist in the world, include the remnants of several temples, and offers superb panoramic views of the main town of Kos and the island's eastern coast.
Just a short boat journey from Kos, Nisyros is a photogenic volcanic island that was home to an acropolis in ancient times and contains a strikingly large caldera. The island, which almost feels like one enormous volcanic exhibition, is also noted for its beautiful white-washed houses, narrow medieval streets, and medieval castle.
Established in 366BC, the town of Kos was a busy maritime trading centre during the reigns of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, and is overlooked by the enchanting Castle of the Knights of St John, otherwise known as the Castle of Neratzia. The town is also acclaimed for its thriving ancient market and is famed for its high concentration of attractive Venetian buildings, a symbol of the island's former status as a Venetian colony centuries ago.
For more excellent panoramic views of the island, you could take the bus from the town to the Kos Natural Park of Zia, where you can take part in pleasant country walks and witness incredible sunsets.
